Lead Spanish Enrichment Teacher

 

MCPC (Montclair Community Play Center) Co-op Preschool is seeking a Lead Spanish Enrichment Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.  

$25-27/hr (depending on experience); 10-19 hrs/week (includes prep time); This position requires availability on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 AM to 4 PM, totaling 10 hours/week. Additional hours may be available during our morning preschool program (M&W starting at 8 AM) and Saturday morning toddler program (8:30am-11:30am) for candidates seeking more hours totaling up to 19 hrs/week.

About Spanish Enrichment @ MCPC 

This curriculum-based program is conducted entirely in Spanish on Mondays & Wednesdays from 12 - 3pm and is geared towards our second and third year students. Children sing Spanish songs, learn counting and conversational Spanish phrases with teachers and peers, and craft Latinx art projects, fostering cultural enrichment. This program is meant to be foundational in providing a lifelong love and appreciation for different languages and cultures.

Job Description and Responsibilities

The Lead Spanish Enrichment Teacher is responsible for facilitating activities and schedules, caring for and guiding children, setting up activities and leading circles, and collaborating with the Assistant Spanish Teacher. Additional duties include planning sessions, attending meetings if requested, and complying with personnel matters. This hourly position reports to MCPC’s Director with oversight from the Executive Board under an annually renewable employment agreement.

The Lead Teacher will implement a curriculum outlined by the Director, who will supervise the Lead Teacher's daily teaching activities, program content, and overall performance and growth.

Teaching Tasks:

  • Develop a supportive relationship with each child through daily interaction and observation.

  • Sensitively assist children in their acquisition of Spanish language skills, adjustment to school, development of socialization skills and relationships with peers and adults.

  • Employ positive discipline and redirection when a child is dysregulated, rather than use timeouts

  • Supervise and assist children at lunchtime, and read books in Spanish to them during lunch.

  • Direct Assistant Teacher on set up as needed for patio and outside space.

  • Direct Assistant Teacher on how and when to lead circles.

  • Help children find and participate in activities that interest them.

  • Implement the curriculum for the program including but not limited to developing materials, implementing themes, songs, and activities.

Meetings Commitment:

  • Meet with the Assistant Spanish Teacher as needed to discuss and execute the curriculum and teaching strategies.

  • If requested, meet with the Director and other Preschool, Toddler, and Extended Day Teachers 3 to 4 times per year to discuss issues and ideas relevant to the school as a whole, such as availability of equipment and maintenance.

The Lead Teacher may be asked to attend a general membership meeting and serve as the resource person on the Spanish enrichment program.

Qualifications

  • Passion for and experience working with preschool children

  • Complete 15 hours of health and safety training, including first-aid and CPR, before the school year begins in accordance with state licensing requirements.

  • Have a TB test and medical checkup in accordance with the state licensing requirements. 

  • Provide proof of your vaccinations against Measles (MMR), Pertussis (DTap) and COVID. Every year, provide proof of vaccination against influenza and COVID or a written statement declining the influenza and COVID vaccination.

  • Comply with all state licensing requirements for your role as Teacher.

  • Demonstrate the following traits at work: punctuality, creativity, cooperative attitude, initiative, confidentiality, professional behavior, cleanliness, and support of the mission and philosophy of MCPC.
